Fundraising Priorities
“TFA provided support without taking over and doing the job for me – they take you on the journey for you to do it yourself… They gave us a toolbox of tools to use to make it a successful campaign."
Kara Cox, St Kevin’s College Oamaru
Fundraising priorities dictate where your current need for funding is, in line with your own strategic plan, by grouping activities or projects that would enable your organisation to deliver its overall objectives. It is essential that your fundraising priorities come from your vision and strategy, as yours do.
Confirmed fundraising priorities enable you to form compelling ‘asks’ because you have clearly articulated a priority area that aligns with donors’ own interests and values, and which they can visualise and understand.
It is common to also have a general-purpose fundraising priority for non-tagged donations. This allows the organisation to direct donations to where the need is greatest at any given time. This general area is not marketed externally – donors who build relationships with you over time will often say that they are happy for the organisation to choose where the donation is spent.
Fundraising Priorities Development
TIMEFRAME - TWO MONTHS
A facilitated Board session, with the senior team and those responsible for fundraising, invited to join, and a report sent afterwards.
We take the priorities out of your current organisational strategy and translate them into donor-centric language. The output is a small number of clearly named priorities a donor can respond to and give to.
During the session, we also review your organisation's vision, governance, donation policies, donor intent, the terms on which gifts are accepted, independence and disclosure, and the Board's role in fundraising.
This results in a Board that has made the decisions it needs to make before the money conversation starts, and an organisation where everyone is seeing the same thing and has a shared language.
The video below explains why fundraising priorities are useful not only for aligning your organisation's internal focus but also for communicating your work to prospective donors in a language they will truly understand.
