Vision Development
“TFA provided support without taking over and doing the job for me – they take you on the journey for you to do it yourself… They gave us a toolbox of tools to use to make it a successful campaign."
Kara Cox, St Kevin’s College Oamaru
A vision statement describes the organisation as it would appear in a successful future state. If your organisation were to achieve all its objectives, what would it look like 20 years from now? An effective vision statement is inspirational and ambitious.
The emphasis should be on inspiring prospective donors and partners to see their own goals and aspirations reflected in your vision, allowing you to build relationships that take them on a shared journey together.
It is important to consistently communicate your vision beyond fundraising efforts. Donors give to organisations they know and trust; regular communications about your organisation, vision, work, partners and your collective impact will strengthen your credibility and support fundraising across all streams.
Always remember that you are not simply asking for financial support; this is a reciprocal relationship in which you are offering an opportunity to make a real difference, in a way that truly matters to them. Before your potential supporters can understand and value your offer, you need to clearly articulate not just what you need the money for, but why, and the value this brings to them.
Vision development
TIMEFRAME - TWO MONTHS
A facilitated Board session, with the senior team and those responsible for fundraising, invited to join, and a report sent afterwards.
We support the development (or update) of your vision statement. We can either start from scratch, or review and update your current vision statement.
During the session, we also review fundraising priorities, governance, donation policies, donor intent, the terms on which gifts are accepted, independence and disclosure, and the Board's role in fundraising.
This results in a Board that has made the decisions it needs to make before the money conversation starts, and an organisation where everyone is seeing the same thing and has a shared language.
In this video , Sarah explains the benefits of a well-articulated and inspirational vision statement, and why this is of particular importance to NfPs in New Zealand.
