With almost two decades of experience in the not-for-profit sector, and having consulted to over 150 not-for-profit Boards, Sarah has a deep knowledge of best-practice fundraising, and extensive insight based on first-hand experience.
Sarah’s career began in commercial relationship management and business development. She began her career in fundraising in 2008 at a children’s charity, where she developed a comprehensive understanding of corporate partnerships, sponsorships, grants, individual giving, major donors, and bequests.
In 2012, Sarah founded Barrer & Co to positively impact New Zealand’s not-for-profit sector. Her consulting work spans both national and international charity clients, focusing on strategy, structure, governance, and management. She emphasises thoughtful analysis, strong donor relationships, and meaningful stewardship.
Sarah has served on a number of Boards, is an active IoD member, speaking on fundraising issues, has presented at FINZ conference, and presented twice at the Associations and Not-for-Profit Conference. Sarah is a sought-after mentor and advisor to many Fundraisers, Chief Executives, and Board members.
